Street Smart but Not Subject Savvy

More streetwise thoughts:

~I don’t want to know how “Deer Cliff Rd.” got its name.  It sounds ominous for the deer.

~If you name a road “Secret Lake Rd,” I think the secret is out.

~Should I be more worried that my school is just off “Asylum Ave.?”

Just received an email from a lingerie company whose initials are VS.  I misread it at first, thinking it said “New Push-Up Thong,” and I thought “Ow!” because really, how much further can you push something like that up?   And please, don’t answer that.  As it turns out it said “Push-up & thong” which is very different.  Now it seems to be suggesting that I exercise in my underwear.  I think I’ll pass, because nobody wants to see that, including me.  And I’ve never really enjoyed doing push-ups, so the thought is especially obnoxious.  The inclusion of the word “bra” would perhaps have been advisable.

Now, while I’d like to discuss this further with you, I’ll spare you.  I have some anti-Semitic rantings to read about for my race class.  Carry on.

Insanity, Thy Name is Aravis

October 4, 2009

I am, for about 2 seconds, caught up with my school work.  I thought I would stop by and say hello.

Hello.

You’ve probably figured out on your own that I’ve been busy trying to settle in to my new routine.  For the most part things are going well.  I like my classes and my professors.  I had one (really) bad week last week when I got one of  those nasty sinus infections that feel like every tooth on the side of your face is abscessing at the same time.  This set me back on my classwork, and I was left scrambling to catch up.  This snowballed.  Horrifically.  I had a critical writing essay due.  It was a mess.  I mean truly, truly a mess.  It was barely coherent, not unlike myself.  The next morning I had a test due for my English class which involved two essays.  The writing quality was better on these, but still not great.  While other professors might not see a problem with them, I guarantee you this one will.  He’s an English professor.  It goes with the territory.  Then there was the in-class test I didn’t have time to study for.  Disaster.  I had to pull 2 all-nighters last week (which left my back and legs in so much pain I could barely walk), only got between 4-6 hrs. of sleep a night when I did go to bed, and then it was the sort of sleep where you’re aware of almost everything going on around you.  I was pushing so hard to get everything done in time that I would forget to eat, and Randy would have to make me stop to do so.

So yeah, bad week.

But, starting this past Thursday I was able to catch up with everything.  I’m back on course and have everything done that needed to be done by midnight tonight or 8 AM tomorrow.  I’m even ahead on things due later this week.  I won’t rest on my laurels, though.  I need to keep working steadily so that I don’t find myself in that position again!

My classes are interesting, and I like my professors.  I enjoy the challenges that I’m being presented, and I’m making friends.  As long as I remember to stop and breathe, and occasionally eat, I think everything will be okay.
